Corneal Keratitis:

Superficial or interstitial corneal inflammation.

Etiology:

bulletViral (Herpes Simplex or Herpes Zoster) vs. Toxic/Bacterial

Signs & Symptoms

bulletBlurred vision, photophobia, periocular pain, girtty foreign body sensation
bulletFlorescein staining often reveals multiple punctate corneal lesions
bulletDefinitive diagnosis requires opthalmologic referral (slit lamp testing & culture/biopsy)

Treatment

bulletHerpes Simplex --> topical antivirals (Viroptic)
bulletHerpes Zoster --> oral Acyclovir
bulletBacterial --> tobramycin
bulletFungal --> flucytosine or other topical anti-fungals
